Volunteer:
For 27 years, the "Joey P" sailed the world's oceans in defense of the United States of America. Gunline duties off Korea, blockade enforcement off Cuba, participation in NASA space capsule recovery, and connections with the Kennedy family highlight her career.

However in January of 1974, JPK began her most important mission as a memorial and museum to all Destroyermen who sailed the seas. Her outreach with the public has allowed generations of Americans to learn about and visit a Vietnam era Destroyer as well as honor those who gave their life during the Cold War time period of the 20th century.

A major way that one can support DD850 is by joining her current crew. Volunteers are needed for restoration, preservation, visitor interaction, and display security. We hold Volunteer Field Day events every May and October in which active duty military, veterans, civilians, youth organizations, and others can live, work, and sleep aboard ship while completing various work projects. Volunteers programs are also available on a weekly and monthly basis.

Today, volunteers handle all major restoration and maintenance of JPK. Battleship Cove relies on our dedicated volunteer team to promote and maintain our mission to preserve the ship for future generations. We are a integral part of the operation and outreach of the museum that we partner with.

Our crew consists of many talents, backgrounds, and skill sets that provide a passionate community service opportunity. New volunteers are partnered with a team leader for orientation.
